The hike to Mystic Beach begins at the south/east trailhead for the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail, about 30 minutes' drive north of Sooke on Highway 14. (The Juan de Fuca Trail is like the little brother to the West Coast Trail, in that it can take you 3-5 days to hike this 47-km trail end-to-end.

Obviously, there were many stops along the way, but our main target was Mystic Beach, a reputedly stunning beach located on the Juan de Fuca Marine Trail known for its impressive setting and, get this, a waterfall dropping from the cliffs right onto the beach!

Mystic Beach is a hidden gem on Vancouver Island as you need to hike along part of the Juan De Fuca trail to reach it. The beach is fairly small and very wild, where elephant seals are often spotted! There was even a sign last time we were there warning us of a juvenile elephant seal in the area!

Mystic Beach can be found just four kilometers past the Jordan River and kicks off the Juan De Fuca Marine Trail with a gorgeous start. Besides scenery that will take your breath away, there are convenient campgrounds nearby and even multiple super cool caves to explore at low tide.

Mystic beach is located about 75 km from Victoria on Vancouver Island. The drive along highway 14 is incredibly scenic, however, with only single lane driving and an abundance of construction in the summer months, you may want to budget some extra time for the drive. I would say the drive will probably take you close to 1.5 hours.

To access the start of the short 2KM (4KM round trip) trail you will be parking at the Southeast Juan de Fuca Trail Trailhead (China Beach parking). When: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter. Location: Vancouver Island. Hike: 4KM round trip.
